Horse Riding in Brittany France
There are many riding schools in Brittany France catering for all disciplines of horse riding. The rates vary greatly from as much as 30€ per hour to as little as 8€ per hour.
I started riding in Brittany and soon joined the FFE Federation Francais du Equitation. This meant that rather than paying a supplement for each hours riding to cover insurance etc I was automatically covered by the FFE membership. This also meant that I could go to other riding schools in Brittany or France and receive the same discounts.
I took dressage and jumping all for 8€ per hour. The FFE membership was around 100€ per anum for adults. Children's fees were less expensive.
The riding school often arranged evening BBQ's and events for Christmas as well as special halloween events for children. The whole setup I found to be very informal and relaxed. The riding instructions (though in French) were very clear and I found myself progressing rapidly.
The horses and ponies at the riding school in Brittany were all very well cared for and came with the usual mix of mentalities making for interesting riding. I remember one horse in particular that I hated, he was so awkward. He never wanted to do what I wanted him too!! Then after riding lots of other horse I came back to him and found that it wasn't him it at all.....it was me - now he was a great horse to ride. I think his only fault was probably not suffering fools gladly LOL.
Kids from around 4 can start riding Shetlands, they then soon progress to ponies and if capable will be riding 16 hand horses at 11/12 years old.
Overall Brittany is a lovely area to learn to ride, be it in the menage or out riding in the extensive forests of Brittany.
